Until now I haven’t spoken out about the Labour Leadership contest.

Today Dan Jarvis released a report on how Labour can win back UKIP supporters and why Andy Burnham is right for the job. 

On 5th May 1979, I started my duty as a newly-qualified Staff Nurse on a male medical ward. I had requested a late start, because I had been campaigning for Labour the night before in the 1979 General Election.

As someone who stood as a Labour Parliamentary Candidate at the 2015 General Election and whose day job is as an NHS Hospital Specialist, I am supporting Andy for Leadership of the Labour Party because he will reconnect with the British public and because he has a vision that is fit for the 21st Century

Many Labour supporters have had their ballot papers and have already voted for their new Leader. And there is a new spring in the step of Andy Burnham. 

The Labour Party faces a vital choice in the current leadership election. It is a choice that is vital for the future of the Party itself, but also vital for the whole country.

You can count the number of Labour council leaders in the South East on one hand. The total number of Labour councils in the South East, East Midlands, Eastern region and the South West are too few and far between.

Between 1997 and 2005 Labour held three of the six parliamentary seats in Gloucestershire. That's right, half of the county's seats.
